Despite remaining offshore, the storm will affect large areas of the Northeast.
Brevard County is closing schools on Friday as hurricane Sandy becomes a category 2 storm. Dangerous rip currents, rain, and high winds will make the area too dangerous for kids to be outdoors authorities say.

FLORIDA, FL (Catholic Online) - Schools in all other counties will remain open despite a tropical storm watch along the coast.

Hurricane Sandy boats sustained winds around 105 mph, and will move north into the Atlantic where she is expected to weaken.

Forecasters are warning that Sandy may collide with other storm fronts to the north, causing a "perfect storm" of exceptional severity. That storm may dump torrential rains on the northeast while blasting the region with high winds.
