15% tuition increase is the legal limit
The Board of Governors committee is pushing for the approval of increased tuition of up to 15% at Florida's public universities.

ORLANDO, FL (Catholic Online) - On Thursday, the full board is voting on the proposal in Orlando. The committee vote was 7 to 2. Governor Rick Scott was against the increases, however board members say it would partly balance a $300 million budget cut for the State University System. Scott and Legislature approved the cut.

The University of Florida is looking for a 9% increase while the University of South Florida seeks 11%. The other nine schools are asking for the legal limit of a 15% tuition increase.

Tico Perez, Budget and Finance Committee Chairman, stated that 30% of the tition increase has to be used for need-based scholarships.
