![]() Taxi rates in Orlando have increased 9 percent. ORLANDO, FL (Catholic Online) - The City Council increased the rate for a cab ride from $2.20 to $2.40 for the first quarter mile, with 55 to 60 cents for each additional quarter mile. The increase brings the tab of a 10-mile cab ride from $23.65 to $25.80. The city's action applies only in Orlando. But about half of the 548 cabs are owned by Mears Transportation, which will use the new rates throughout the area to avoid confusion, according to a company spokesman. Even with the new change, Orlando's cab rates remain among the lowest in major cities. © 2012, Distributed by NEWS CONSORTIUM. - - - Pope Benedict XVI's Prayer Intentions for January 2013 General Intention: The Faith of Christians.
