ORLANDO, FL (Catholic Online) - Trayvon Martin was a black teenager who was fatally shot by neighborhood watch volunteer, George Zimmerman, on February 26.

On Monday, the attorney for Martin's parents sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice's civil rights division asking officials to expand their survey to include the decision-making in the State Attorney's Office which is run by Norm Wolfinger

The parents of the slain teenager want to know why Wolfinger's office made the decision not to charge Zimmerman and why Wolfinger, himself, recused himself from the case.

The Justice Department is now looking into the Sanford Police Department and how they are handling the case.

As of now, a special prosecutor is investigating the shooting.
